Most of the main networks now have apps that let you download on demand the shows you'd be DVRing. But that's only an intro price, after which it goes up to an additional $50 a month. Currently, Charter is offering basic TV for only $20 more a month than my internet only plan. I have yet to find a cord-cutting service that's as convenient as a "cord" with DVR. But I don't want to pay for other programming twice just to get it. Those are really the only channels that often watch live. I really wish Scripps Networks would offer an OTT app so I could get HGTV, Food Network, Cooking Channel, and DIY Network. I get that with Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, HBO, Showtime, Starz, and OTA local programming via Tablo. My main objectives when I cut the cord were 1) paying for only those service I want, 2) on demand playback, and 3) no commercials.

And neither plan offers access to popular Comcast channels like USA Network, Bravo, SyFy, Etc.īottom line? I'll tinker with it during the 7 day trial but I'll certainly cancel it. But on the multi-stream plan (which is a step in the right direction) you can get the Fox Channels but not the Disney channels. but no Fox channels like FX and Fox Sports. On the single-stream plan (which is a joke in and of itself) you get Disney channels like ESPN, ABC Family, Disney Channel, etc. But the networks are making it a total PITA. I like the concept of the "skinny bundle". So no access to any On Demand playback those apps offered. This includes AMC, HGTV, Food Network, Travel Network, etc. Couldn't login to any of the TV Everywhere apps I tried other than ESPN. Unless you pause on one of the channels that allows it and then fast forward over the commercial after you let the live signal pass it up. Because it's basically a Live TV service there is no skipping commercials. There are even less channels which support On Demand playback. Half the available channels let you Play/Pause/Rewind. The user experience is "inconsistent" at best. Why click anything in that section if it's not currently airing? But I don't get the point of the "Favorites" section at all for a live TV service. The "Continue Watching" section seems reasonable. The "My Channels" sections is a must have. The main "My TV" view is rather cluttered. Eventually had to call and have customer service do it for me.

Couldn't update any personal or billing information because the site kept throwing errors. It just displayed a "Loading" message when trying to choose a subscription. Signing up via the website didn't work. That was useful for watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals last night.

Was able to login to the Watch ESPN app and gained full access. Live TV streaming worked solidly on every channel I tried. And $5/month add-on packages based upon your interests is a very smart go-to-market strategy. $20/month is very reasonable for the base package. So I decided to check out the 7 day trial of Sling TV now that they've finally released an app for the Apple TV 4.
